About Board Elections

The election of directors for the St. Louis Park Hockey Association Board is held annually each spring.

2020 elections date/time TBA.

The elections will be held at the end of the annual meeting and will be administered by a neutral party (historically the board's legal counsel) appointed by the board. 

All members of SLPHA in attendance are eligible to case 1 vote per position during the elections.   No proxy or absentee votes will be accepted.

A member of SLPHA is defined as meeting 1 of the following 3 criteria:

1.    A parent or legal guardian of a registered player for the 2018-19 season.

2.    A registered, non-parent coach who coached during the 2018-19 season.

3.    An elected, non-parent board member.

The elections will begin with each candidate being given the opportunity to make a 3 minute presentation to the members in attendance followed by a Q&A session that will be capped at 15 minutes or at the discretion of the administrator of the election.

At the conclusion of the Q&A session, voting will commence by secret ballot.  Ballots will be distributed via 3 stations, divided alphabetically.  Each SLPHA member will be required to confirm their attendance by initialing the 2018-19 registration list.

Once ballots are completed, they will be deposited into a sealed ballot box.  At the conclusion of voting, under the guidance of the administrator of the election, 3 board members not up for election will count and tabulate the ballots.

The result of the elections will be communicated association wide via email and will be posted on the SLPHA website at the conclusion of counting.

The newly elected board will then elect the officers of the association, unless the prior board decides to submit some or all of the officer elections to the membership at the same time as the board election described above.

* The President position is an appointed position selected by the board, and is not up for election by the general membership.

** The Vice President / Hockey Development Coordinator position is up for a one-year term for the 2019-2020 season.   After which, starting the 2020-2021 season, this position will be up for re-election for a two-term  per the bylaws. 

The positions noted above are up for election for a two-year term unless indicated otherwise.  The corresponding name represents someone who has expressed interest in the position and/or is an incumbent. 

Please note: anyone meeting the criteria can run for a board position that is up for election, even if a person currently serving in that position is running for re-election.
